Samhain Box
When the last of the harvest is gathered and the nights draw in, the veil between the worlds wears thin. Our acrstors knew it, and they kept their doors guarded and their hearths bright.
Inside, you'll find everything you need to keep the old customs of the season:
The Pumpkin Altar Decoration (please note: the colour will be picked at random)-
Long before the pumpkin, folk in Ireland and Scotland carved turnips and set a light inside to guide the wandering dead and turn away less friendly spirits. Let this one keep watch on your altar, glowing a welcome to those you wish to greet.
three Iron Nails Wrapped in Red Thread -
Iron has long been said to frighten the Good Folk, and red thread has been a charm against harm for just as long. Together they make a humble but potent protection. Tuck them above a lintel, beneath the doormat, or in a windowsill, so that nothing uninvited crosses your threshold.
The Rowan Berry Vintage Iron Key Charm with Hagstone-
The rowan is the guardian tree of the old Celtic lands, its scarlet berries a shield against enchantment. Here it is paired with a vintage iron key, to open what should be opened and lock out what should not, and a hagstone, a stone with a natural hole worn by water. Tradition says that if you look through it, you may see what is usually hidden, the fae and the spirits among them. hang it by the door as a talisman.
The Dumb Supper Candlesticks-
On Samhain night, some families set a place at the table for their beloved dead and shared a meal in reverent silence. Light these candles for your own dumb supper, to call your ancestors to the table and honour those who came before.
Hearth and Home Protection Powder-
In the old days, the hearth fire was put out and relit at Samhain, the heart of the home renewed for the dark half of the year. Sprinkle this powder across doorways and windowsills, or in the corners of your rooms, to keep your home safe, warm, and blessed through the long nights.
The Thinning Veil Ritual Oil-
For the moment when you wish to walk closer to the Otherworld. Dress your candles with it, anoint your wrists or brow, or use it to mark the start of your ritual, and open yourself to messages, memories, and visitors from beyond.
The Vintage Style Offering Plate-
Samhain is the time for honouring those who came before. Place your loved ones' favourite things on this little plate, a sweet, a sip of tea or wine, a flower, and let each offering draw you closer to them.
Guard your home. Honour your dead. Keep the old ways alive.
