Iron Nail Cross Protection Ward

Old iron remembers. Before it was pulled from timber and bent into shape, it held a barn together through storms, or a door shut against something that wanted in. That memory doesn't leave metal easily - and neither does the work asked of it here.

Two hand-forged nails, crossed and bound tight with red string - the old color, the color of blood and hearths and threshold magic, the thread that's tied to doorframes and cradles since before anyone wrote the reason down.

Folk charms like this one traveled through kitchens and cellars long before they hung in shops: nailed above a door, tucked beneath a mattress, hidden in the wall of a new house before the plaster went up. Iron to turn back what shouldn't cross the threshold. String to bind the ward and keep it from wandering off its post.

This isn't decoration pretending at meaning. It's a working charm, made the way it's always been made - rough, deliberate, a little unsettling to look at, because the things worth warding against were never gentle either.
Hang it by the door. Rust doesn't weaken it, some say it feeds it.
