Dumb Supper Samhain Ritual Candles

In old folk tradition, the dumb supper is held in silence. A place is laid for the departed, the table is set with care, and the living wait without speaking so the dead may feel welcome to draw near. These candles are made to light that table.

Each one is poured from a blend of beeswax and soy, dyed deep red and then dipped in black wax. Red is the colour of the hearth fire, the blood line and the ones who came before. Black is the night, the threshold and the thinning veil. As the candle burns, the black wears away to show the red beneath, like the dark lifting to reveal what has been kept warm all along.

Every candle is dressed in a blend of meadowsweet, mullien and mugwort. All herbs for protection and connection with the dead.

Important - Please note: We accept no liability for how our candles are used/burnt once they leave our care so it is important to follow our recommended guidelines carefully - these candles are dressed in dry herbs and florals, this means that the flame can be quite high. We strongly recommend burning them in a fireproof bowl, jar or cauldron surrounded by salt or sand as the dry herbs can cause fall out.

These candles will also drip so please keep this in mind. Never leave unattended, near children, textiles or drafts.
